In recent years, MEDUGORJE has become one of the most famous and most visited centres of pilgrimage in the whole Catholic world. On June 24, 1981, the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Jesus, appeared in the village of Bijakovici in the Medugorje parish, to six youngs parishioners (two boys and four girls). There have been apparitions every day since that date, and thousands upon thousands of pilgrims from all over the world have been converging on Medugorje. According to general estimates, during the last year over 25 milion pilgrims have visited it. Today Medugorje is the best known and one of most often mentioned settlement in the world. Medugorje as a unique phenomenon in the modern world that drew milions of pilgrims and religious tourists from the whole world into that rocky Herzegovinian village.
In Medugorje man becomes aware of his minority and opens up towards his fullness. His very coming to Medugorje is evidence that he is hungry for non-materialistic values. The hunger makes him search, and hope brings him to Medugorje. On a pilgrimage to find truth, the only thing that can free them, people meet this truth in Medugorje, and become its witnesses for each other.
People have only one need: to be loved. If no one carries him in his heart, man does not see his justification for living. And vice versa, if he carries no one in his heart, there seems to be no reason for his life here on earth. Who is loved has confidence in life and in himself.
